Debaditya Pramanik from Kolkata emerged as the topper in the eastern region by All India Rank of 38 the in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2017, results of which were declared on Sunday.
Sarvesh Mehtani from Panchkula secured the All India Rank of 1 in the JEE (Advanced), which is held for admission to all the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian School of Mines (ISM) in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad.
A student of Birla High School, Pramanik bagged the first position in the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) this year and also emerged as the topper from West Bengal in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12.
Elated with the two consecutive successes, Pramanik thanked his parents, grandparents and teachers for his achievements. He specially mentioned the role played by his father in encouraging him and helping him to study in a more organised manner.
“Without their blessings and support this success would not have come,” he said.
Pramanik said he used to study for around four hours on an average every day. “But I was always careful on giving equal emphasis to physics, chemistry and mathematics. Probably, my success depended a lot on such equal emphasis on these three subjects,” he said.
Pramanik now wants to pursue research in the field of physics. “I will try my best to fulfil my ambition,” he said.
