Two Canberra women are among 16 finalists competing for a leg-up in the property industry.
Hope Wilkins, a 22-year-old who works in retail, and Tahnee Barnes, a 28-year-old recruitment consultant, are in the running for LJ Hooker’s Million Dollar Intern position.
LJ Hooker Double Bay agent Bill Malouf will take the winning contestant under his wing for a three-month paid position.
Mr Malouf sells more than $300 million worth of property a year in the prestigious Sydney Harbour market.
“I’m very excited to have the chance to unearth the brightest new talent for real estate in Australia,” Mr Malouf said.
“I’ve been impressed by the variety of people we’ve seen enter.
“From school leavers to people looking to change industries, there’s a real hunger for this life-changing experience and if you have that hunger, it doesn’t really matter what their background is.”
Ms Wilkins is a keen traveller, while Ms Barnes has a military background.
“For the first time since leaving the military, the thought of having a career that I could live and breathe and thrive in took over,” Ms Barnes said.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from the best and join Australia’s strongest real estate brand.”
Ms Wilkins is also seeking a change from the nine-to-five grind.
I’m determined to succeed in a career that challenges me and to wake up every day loving what I do,” she said.
“I came across the ad for Million Dollar Intern and it seemed like the perfect opportunity.”
Finalists were selected based on a submission video, personality test and a phone interview.
LJ Hooker chief of network Graeme Hyde said he was impressed by the quality of the video submissions.
“There was such a vast array of passionate entries; it became very hard to narrow it down,” Mr Hyde said.
“We saw people selling anything from a pen, a chicken, vintage cars and cities.
“However our best submissions showcased a clear and succinct presentation style and exuded confidence.
“The competition is proof that the next cohort of real estate agents are driven, passionate and raring to go, which is truly exciting.”
The winner will receive Sydney accommodation and an Audi car for the duration of the internship.
