Coaching institutes in Kota, India’s coaching hub, claimed on Sunday that at least 40 of their students have found a place in the list of top 100 in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2017, which is conducted for admission to various engineering colleges, including the premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
Institutes in the Rajasthan city also said their students have grabbed half of the places in the top 10 All India Rank or AIR in the JEE Advanced. The results were declared earlier in the day.
Nearly 1.50 lakh students from across the country enrol in the 40-odd coaching institutes in Kota every year to prepare for the highly competitive entrance examinations for different professional courses. Kota’s coaching business runs into hundreds of crores of rupees. They are also known to produce all-India toppers in most of the competitive exams.
Suraj Yadav of Vibrant Academy clinched AIR 5 by scoring 330 out of 366 marks. Saurav Yadav of Resonance Eduventures Private Limited also scored 330 out of 366 marks to bagged AIR 6.
Allen Career Institute said three of its students – Omkar Manik Deshpande, Rachit Bansal and Lakshya Sharma – grabbed AIR 8, 9 and 10 respectively.
Nucleus coaching institute of Kota also claimed Lakshya Sharma, who has ranked AIR 10, took coaching for JEE Advanced from their institute.
Apart from the top 10 AIR, coaching institutes in the city said many of their students appeared in the top 100 rank.
The managing director of Resonance, RK Verma, said nine of their students grabbed ranks in the top 100, including Saurav Yadav, Arpit Menaria, Yash Jain, Ritik Roongta, Shashank Kumar, Shivam Goyal, Nisarg Bhatt, Divyanshu and Prakhar Mangal who secured AIR 6, 22, 29, 48, 54, 63, 90, 92 and 95 respectively.
Allen Career Institute claimed that 25 students also appeared among the top 100 students in the merit list, including 21 from classroom coaching and four from distance learning.
Its director Naveen Maheshwari said that Manik Deshpande, Rachit Bansal and Lakshya Sharma scored AIR Rank 8, 9 and 10 respectively while Yatish Agarwal has acquired AIR 12, Aman Kansal AIR 15, Yash Khemchandani AIR 16, Devansh Garg AIR 19, Arpit Agarwal bagged AIR 21, Abhay Goel AIR 23, Tushar Gautam AIR 24, Piyush Tiberewal AIR 37, Satvik Mehulbhai AIR 42, Iran Ghosh AIR 45 and Shaurya Agarwal AIR 50.
Four students from Vibrant Academy also managed to bag ranks in the top 100. Narendra Awasthi, director of Vibrant Academy, said apart from Suraj Yadav, who scored AIR 5, Sumit, Manas Shukla and Medhakant scored AIR 47, 55 and 75 respectively.
Shailendra Maheshwari, director of Career Point Institute, said many of their students got top ranks in Scheduled Caste and Other Backward Class (OBC) categories. He said Sunil Kumar, Archisman, Gaurav Anand and Sameer Pandey secured AIR 3, 16, 17 and 33 AIR in SC category while Sanjeev Jadhav got AIR 5 in the OBC category.
Director of Nucleus Coaching Institute Vishal Joshi also said eight of their students managed to get ranks in the top 100.
As the compilation of the result is still on and will take several hours, final selections will be known later.
