RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat today laid emphasis on the role of teachers and said education policies may be formulated and implemented after much discussion but it is they who put them into practice. “There is a lot of discussion about education these days. This reform or that reform, this system or that system. There have been many suggestions. It is good. Those who need to think should consider them. But how will good come out of it?” he said.
Bhagwat said even if a scheme is framed and funds disbursed, it is the teachers who have to implement it. It is they who bring the balance between ‘shiksha’ (education) and ‘vidya’ (knowledge), he said. The RSS chief’s comments came in the backdrop of a nationwide consultation being undertaken the HRD Ministry on a New Education Policy. He was speaking at an event where some educationists including Dinanath Batra, a prominent RSS ideologue, were honoured.
At the event, Pranav Pandya of the All World Gayatri Pariwar spoke about reports of a JNU student facing discrimination at Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya. Pandya, who was recently offered membership of the Rajya Sabha which he declined, said there are regular “attacks on our culture.” He said often there are allegation of “saffronisation’ of education whereas the colour reflects sacrifice.
