PUNE: The 32nd national convention of electrical engineers and national seminar on “sustainable Development in Indian Power sector for the next decade” was inaugurated by vice-chancellor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University V G Gaikar at the Institution of Engineers (India), Pune local centre.
Speaking on the occasion, Gaikar said, “Electricity has become an inseparable part of life. Development, life style and annual income are considered signs of progress of the country. In India, still electricity has not reached 33 per cent of population. It is necessary to produce electricity at an affordable rate for the common man. Changes in technology, research and innovation together are necessary to face the challenges in electrical sector.”He added, “The technology, particularly in the rural area, should be self-sufficient to support the local needs. Electricity from solar, wind and bio gas will play an important role in the economy of the country. Now, it is the need of the hour to include the practical training along with the conventional engineering education to produce good entrepreneur and for import substitution at low cost.”
Former technical member of MSEB S. V. Deo, vice president of IEI A. S. Satish, chairman of Pune local centre Vijay S.Ghogare, convener DJ Doke and honorary secretary V.N. Shinde were present.
Deo said, “Electrification work in the rural area started in 1970. Now it is necessary to have uninterrupted electricity supply for 24 hours”.
D J Doke said the convention has been organized for electrical engineers, managers and policy makers to share their views, experiences and observations with each other for better planning and adopting a suitable and sustainable technology for the country for the next decade. The Indian power industry is poised to adopt the changes with the indiginisation of technology to suit local needs, he added.
