Afghanistan stunned West Indies by 6 runs in the World T20 championship match in Mohali on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 124, West Indies could manage only 117 for 8 . Despite this defeat, West Indies topped their group and will face India or Australia in the semifinals.
England will face New Zealand in the other semifinal.
Earlier, after putting into bat, Afghanistan, riding on, Najibullah Zadran’s 48 scored a respectable 123 for 7 in the World T20 championship match against West Indies in Nagpur on Sunday.
For West Indies, Samuel Badree (3 for 14) and Andre Russell (2 for 23) were the pick of the bowlers.
West Indies captain Darren Sammy won the toss and elected to bowl against Afghanistan in their last Super 10 Group 1 match of the ICC World Twenty20 in Nagpur on Sunday.
West Indies, already through to the semifinals, have rested swashbuckling batsman Chris Gayle from Sunday’s inconsequential match.
