Two inmates held a hostage and a Chicago-area maximum-security jail in a standoff for several hours on Thursday, police said.
The inmates tore down the security cameras and spread soapy water on the floor of their tier, then took another inmate hostage by using a sharp object.
The sheriff’s department Emergency Response Team worked to “resolve the situation peacefully,” on the tier that houses 16 other inmates. The situation ended at approximately 8 p.m., the sheriff’s office said. No injuries were reported.
