Andrew Bogut latest Olympian to grumble about Rio Olympic digs

While he wasn’t robbed, kidnapped, or vomited on like some of his Olympic comrades, Andrew Bogut has plenty to gripe about.

Last week, the Australian Olympic committee said that the athletes’ village was “uninhabitable,” according to the Sydney Morning Herald. Australian team members have reported a fire, as well as vandalism in its lodgings. A Chinese hurdler was vomited on before having his luggage stolen.

Great Britain even brought its own plumber to Brazil, according to The Times. Now Bogut, who is in Rio de Janeiro representing the Australian basketball team, is unleashing his fury with sarcastic tweets on Twitter. Bogut, as well as NBA comrades Matthew Dellavedova, Patty Mills, Joe Ingles, and Aron Baynes are staying in the shady boarding situation. Meanwhile, Team USA is staying aboard a cruise ship, according to multiple reports. Bogut responded to that by tweeting: “Good to see a few old team mates from countries all over the world cruising around the Village…..”

“In the OLY village,” Bogut tweeted Monday. “Upon first looks its only fitting I will be posting pics with the hashtag #IOCLuxuryLodging #rio2016.”

Bogut, who now plays for the Dallas Mavericks, continued using the hashtag “#IOCLuxuryLodging.”

Those tweets included one with a picture of the 7-foot center putting together a shower curtain.

“#IOCLuxuryLodging. Putting together a shower curtain so we can shower and not flood the place,” Bogut wrote in the Twitter caption.

“Keep checking in throughout the OLYS for more lovely snaps on behalf of our friends @ #IOCLuxuryLodging,” Bogut tweeted.

One fan tweeted to Bogut that he couldn’t believe the Olympians were sleeping in single beds.

“At #IOCLuxuryLodging we believe a bed is not vital for sleep. Fine tuned athletes can sleep standing up,” Bogut sarcastically tweeted.

Bogut then offered a jab at the delegates and their accommodations.

“#IOCLuxuryLodging will not comment on our delegates penthouse villas in downtown Rio,” Bogut tweeted.

Australian Olympic team mission chief Kitty Chiller responded to Bogut’s comments in an interview with ESPN.

“He’s the best man to fix a shower curtain as he’s exactly the right height,” Chiller told ESPN. “[The tweet] was a bit of fun. The village is what it is — we’re all mucking in and doing stuff and there’s no harm in it.”
