Bhayandar: The Navghar police have arrested a local estate agent on charges of cheating aspiring home-seekers on the pretext of offering them flats on a zero rental-heavy deposit scheme. According to the police the accused identified as-Bharat Singh Thakur, operated from the New Golden Nest area of Bhayandar (east).
Thakur is accused of cheating gullible home seekers to the tune of Rs 35 lakh by showing them residential flats and offering them on a zero rental scheme in which a one-time heavy deposit is required to be paid by the tenant. The deposit is refunded when the leave-and-license agreement comes to an end, provided the property is returned to the owner in its original condition.
Thakur accepted the deposits but failed to hand over the possession of the flats, nor did he returned the money. Following complaints, the police arrested Thakur and booked him under the relevant sections of the IPC. The investigators suspect that the magnitude of the fraud could be much higher.
