- No matter how hungry you are, when you overeat, you’re setting yourself up for a bad bout of heartburn. Limit the quantity of food you eat if you regularly suffer from it. Eat smaller portions at regular intervals instead of three large meals.
- Do you hog down your meals the minute you see food in front of you? Eating quickly means you are chewing less and will inevitably get indigestion. Instead, savour each bite and eat slowly.
- Foods that are high in fats will remain far longer in your tummy, causing uneasiness. Steer clear from fried and junk foods. And while cooking, grill, roast or bake your food instead of frying it.
- While certain foods are known to cause heartburn, some beverages could also be the reason. The most common culprit is caffeine, which is known to boost acid in the stomach causing heartburn. This is followed by alcohol and fizzy drinks.
- Spicy foods may be your all-time favourite but having them everyday will cause you a lot of discomfort. Cut down on the consumption of spicy foods instead of doing away with them altogether.
- Follow healthy habits like chewing gum after meals, avoiding lying down immediately after eating, eating dinner early and quitting smoking.
