Devireddy, head cashier in the State Bank of Mysore branch in Sirguppa, is reported to be missing after allegedly taking away Rs. 1.5 crore in cash from the bank’s currency chest.
Based on a complaint from the Chief Manager of the bank, Ravi Hegde, on Tuesday, Sirguppa police swung into action and recovered Rs. 1.1 crore from Devireddy’s house in Ballari.
Giving details here on Wednesday, R. Chetan, Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu that Devireddy had been working in the bank for over 20 years. On March 24, he allegedly stole the money and took it away the next day. He also went on leave.
When he did not turn up, the staff became suspicious and verified bank accounts only to find that cash had gone missing. Later, CCTV footage brought the truth to light.
