‘This season’s freshest looks are all about showing off a little personality,’ says Etsy, who have just unveiled their trend guide for spring.
If you’re looking for a stylish home refresh then you’ve come to the right place, as there are some beautiful furnishings that will brighten up your space and and a little colour to your interiors.
The Etsy Trend Guide is a compilation of fresh trends across Etsy and the home industry, which are based, in part, on some of the top searches within the home decor category on Etsy over the past year.
1. Facetime
‘In 2017, we saw a veritable explosion of hand and eye motifs adorning everything from pillows to mugs,’ explains Etsy. ‘This year, Etsy sellers are doubling down on the trend and zooming out to include full faces in their designs.’
This season you’ll find portrait-inspired pieces ranging from abstract illustrations to minimalist sculptures. In fact, Etsy reveals that in 2018, searches for faces are up 38 per cent compared to the same time period in 2017.
2. Terrazzo
‘Move over, marble – terrazzo, the staple speckled surface of the seventies, is making its way back into modern homes,’ Etsy reveals. ‘We’re totally here for it, and it turns out shoppers are, too.’
We agree, terrazzo is certainly one of the hottest trends of the moment. Stretching beyond the familiar flooring and countertop finishes — Etsy sellers are incorporating patterns inspired by the confetti-like composite into ceramics, pillows, and even wallpaper. Searches are up by 250 per cent this year, compared to the same time period in 2017.
3. Mindful home
Self-care is becoming increasingly essential but with the busy lifestyles that so many of us lead, quiet moments feel ever rarer. But, there’s no better place to start practicing it than at home, and it’s never been easier to turn your personal space into a peaceful oasis.
‘On Etsy, we’ve already seen an increase in searches for incense holders, meditation poufs, and essential oils this year, proving that there are many paths to a balanced home that soothes all your senses,’ they reveal.
4. Fringing
‘We’re really into this fun new trend, it’s following in fashions footsteps where fringing has been a huge deal,’ reveals Etsy. ‘If you want to get ahead of the crowds or just add some texture to your walls, this is the trend for you.’
This is a trend extending far beyond spring and summer, with it expecting to grow even more later this year. ‘We think it’s going to be big,’ they add.
5. Poured, swirled, and stirred
Trending now, the ‘liquid effect’ is about to be everywhere, and it will ‘take the decor world by storm in 2019,’ predicts Etsy, who describe it as a ‘more colourful iteration of the go-with-the-flow wabi-sabi vibe’.
On Etsy, sellers are already starting to apply this look to everything from ceramics to wall art. The e-commerce site for handmade and vintage items describes the style as something like this: ‘Imagine finding the most beautiful agate stone in the world, melting it, and then slowly swirling a watercolour brush through the pooling colours.’
