5 tips for interior designers to maximise their business

In today’s fraught business scenario, where only a few interior designers are able to do the larger chunk of business comprising of 80% of prominent opportunities. At the same time, many other talented designers are unable to get access to prolific projects. Successful designers have mastered the art of maximising their business over time.

Let’s deep dive into what made them so successful and so, here are 5 useful tips for interior designers to maximise their business.

Create well-structured, focused, client-centric business collaterals
Your business collaterals are your project portfolio, your website, your profile, your social media pages like Facebook, LinkedIn, instagram, twitter, etc. Your collaterals will be better made with your well-thought USPs, the positioning you have decided for yourself and your niche like homes, work places, retail, healthcare, etc. Further, you should communicate in your collateral what your client gets from you and why he should prefer you as a designer for his project.

Maximise your reach
Maximising your reach means more and more prospective clients have access to your collaterals. Unless people are aware about you, they will not give you their projects. The successful designers expose themselves well in media, they make their social pages more popular and they network extensively. So, you could also do the same by adopting digital marketing techniques, PR for your firm and attend the networking events in your market niche.

Learn to produce designs like a factory
I may sound weird as designing is a creative process but you can document and formulate your project lifecycle processes and make them structured enough to give high quality consistent output during all stages while executing the project. For example, you should have well-defined questionnaire to take client requirements, your site survey processes, your product and design libraries should be well organised, easily accessible, your sketching and drafting processes should be well laid out and much more. your processes will differentiate you from your competition.

Give a lot for free

Like any other professional, we like to bill each and every minute to the client. This is a wrong practice. Educate your client for free on various aspects to save money while doing his project, finding new and innovative products, interacting wisely with contractors and teaching him/her how to complete the project faster. Try and deliver something extra which comes as a pleasant surprise to your client.

Do continuous market research
Everyday new products get introduced. Your knowledge of new products and your ability to use them in your project will bring in more creativity. Clients will also feel happy about using newly-launched products in their project. You could do so by internet research, visiting national and international trade fairs and meeting more and more vendors on a regular basis.

Last but not the least; don’t forget to take client testimonials. You could shoot a small video interview on your mobile and post it on your website and social channels. Trust me, 99.9% designers don’t do this. As you make money, keep improving your own studio infrastructure, it is important to have a well-appointed studio to be positioned as a successful designer.
