High Point Market, the furniture industry’s most anticipated event of the year, will take place later this month (April 18th-23rd). But, before it opens, the High Point Style Spotters give us a sneak peak at the top trends we’ll see this season.
1. Made in America. “With the resurgence in all things manufactured in the USA, there are new pieces and collections that reflect a handmade, folksy quality in their design,” says Kati Curtis of Kati Curtis Design. “Southwestern motifs and hand tooling details imbued these pieces with an authentic Americana quality.”
2. Blue. “Pantone may have decreed Marsala to be the fashion color of the year but blue is the color of the year in furniture and accessories for the home,” says Patti Johnson of Patti Johnson Interiors. “I see lots of deep and vibrant blue shades ranging from royal indigo to watery azure that are welcome updates to every decorating color palette this season.”
3. Nature. “Designers are typically inspired by the natural world around them and this season is no exception,” explains Lori Gilder from The Kitchen Design Network. “For example an elegant table lamp featuring a stunning slice of semi-precious stone or a table crafted from one solid piece of exotic wood integrates beautifully with the greens, blues, creams and browns found in nature.”
4. Metallic. “I saw a wide range of metallic finishes and threading at the Fall 2014 show. For spring, the trend expands and evolves with metallic finishes primarily in gold but lots of silver, bronze, and pewter,” says Michelle Jennings Wiebe of Studio M Interior Design. “These finishes continue to provide a sophisticated sense of drama and elegance to any environment.”
