General Election Matchup
- Among Likely Voters, Clinton leads Trump at 43% to 39%; among Registered Voters, Clinton leads Trump by 8 points (44% vs 36%)
- In the 4-way ballot including Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Jill Stein, the overall picture is relatively similar to the 2-way ballot: Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 4 points (42% vs 38%) among likely voters
- Looking at candidate favorability, Clinton and Trump’s favorability were tied last Friday. Since then, Clinton’s favorability has increased by 7 points compared to a 1-point increase for Trump; Clinton’s ratings are now tied at 50%, and Trump is at 44% favorable and 56% unfavorable.
Other Trends
- Public concern about terrorism remains at the top of the list of problems facing America (25%), followed by concern about the economy at 18%.
- President Barack’s Obama approval rating, which declined after the Republic Convention, is back up with an approval and disapproval rate tied at 48%.

These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Thomson Reuters July 30- August 3, 2016. For the survey, a sample of 1,631 Americans, including 735 Democrats, 572 Republicans, and 191 Independents ages 18+ were interviewed online. The precision of the Reuters/Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll has a credibility interval of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points for all adults, 4.1 percentage points for Democrats, 4.7 percentage points for Republicans, and 8.1 percentage points for Independents. The data were weighted to the U.S. current population data by gender, age, education, and ethnicity. Statistical margins of error are not applicable to online polls. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error and measurement error.
