Tono Group has launched a new division, Retro Development.
The name Retro, a shortened version of the word retrofit, reflects its focus on investing in blighted or undervalued properties and revitalizing them.
Retro’s first project is the $2 million renovation of 436 W. James St. into offices for Tono Group and a new restaurant, Luca.
The structure, opened in 1944 as a Food Fair grocery store, most recently was home to Lestz & Co., small wholesaler of hardware and dry goods.
Tono Group moved there in July from Wheatland Place, expanding its offices from 3,400 square feet to 9,000 square feet. Luca has another 4,200 square feet.
Other Tono Group companies are Tono Architects, Proto Construction Management and Interiors by Deco. Tono Group has 25 employees.
