Brooklyn Decker on The Bachelorette, Home Decor, and Her Favorite Snacks

Saheli 23 Aug 2016 Home Deco Comments Off on Brooklyn Decker on The Bachelorette, Home Decor, and Her Favorite Snacks 537 Views

After an enviable modeling career that included landing the cover of 2010’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, Brooklyn Decker has built an impressive acting résumé. In roles that range from a good-hearted teacher in Adam Sandler’s Just Go with It (her debut) to a physical therapist in Battleship to her turn as the daughter of Jane Fonda’s character in the critically acclaimed Netflix series Grace and Frankie, the actress has conquered screens big and small with poise and style. Those same adjectives nicely sum up Decker’s home life in Austin, Texas, where she lives with her husband, tennis ace Andy Roddick; their one-year-old son, Hank; and two English bulldogs, Billie Jean and Costas. Read on to find out what she’s eating, watching, and listening to.

Describe your home in five words or less. Austin ranch hidden in woods.

How would you describe your taste in home decor? I like a place to feel lived-in and a little beat-up. I like a home to have some history to it. I like pieces to have some weight to them. If you can capture all that character and your home makes you laugh, you’re really onto something.

What’s your favorite piece that you purchased for this home? I have a heavy ten-foot-long dining room table. I designed it, and my little brother built it for me. That’s a special piece.

What’s always in your fridge? Cheese. Good, delicious cheese—I love triple-cream Brie—olives, and a bottle of rosé. We always have friends popping by, so it’s fantastic for entertaining. Who am I kidding? I just like to eat cheese and get drunk on random Tuesday afternoons. Alone.

If you could own any work of art what would it be? 11 p.m. Tuesday or A Pedigree of Some Note by Lynette Yiadom-Boakye. I could stare at those paintings for hours. And she paints her pieces in one sitting. I’m also a huge Harland Miller fan. I love the scale of his paintings, and his work just makes me laugh.

What was last playing on your TV? The Bachelorette finale. JoJo picked Jordan. The tears were flowing.

What’s on your bedside table? Books—I’m currently reading Judd Apatow’s Sick in the Head. Usually an empty glass of wine and a little John Derian tray that says “Happy.” It’s a nesting place for all my bits and baubles at the end of the day.

If you could only save one thing in your home, what would it be? My child. I have to say my child, right? Okay, let’s pretend the baby, my dogs, and husband are all clear of the flames. I would grab my husband’s U.S. Open trophy. He doesn’t care enough to grab it himself, and the only thing I’ve ever won is a Razzie, so I like to pretend it’s mine.

What song has been playing most often in your home of late? Leon Bridges’s “River” because it’s like a warm blanket. It has soul to it, and it’s not of this time. I think I want this playing at my funeral. Can someone write that down, please?

What was the best-designed set you’ve ever worked on and why? Our set designers onGrace and Frankie are wonderful. Their attention to detail is impeccable; they only use real plants in the background because they want them to blow in the wind the right way, and they have real cast baby pictures littered around the houses. My fantasy set would have been the Practical Magic set. I want to live in the Roman and Williams world.

What was the best movie prop you’ve gotten to take home? I need to improve my thievery skills because I actually don’t have much from sets. One of my favorite wrap gifts is from Pete Berg—he sent me a riot shield with “Decker” plastered on the front. I’m still trying to find the right place to hang it.
