A Wicklow-based architecture firm has won a prestigious UK award for its design of a house in Greystones, Co Wicklow.
Delgany-based Arc Design was shortlisted in two categories at the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) annual awards and won the overall Alan King Award for Streamline House.
Arc was also commended in the technical design category for the art deco-inspired house.
Stiff competition
Brian and Mark Davies, of Arc Design, attended the ceremony in Southampton last weekend, as the small firm faced stiff competition from other RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) architectural heavyweights.
Last year’s winner of the award was Patrick Bradley Architects for its Grillagh Water House in Co Down made from shipping containers – which also featured on Channel 4’s popular Grand Designs programme.
Arc Design was commissioned by Tony and Teresa Casey to build the Streamline House on a half-acre site beside a stream in Greystones when they wanted a complete change from the dormer bungalow they had built in 2000 on the same site.
