Even a beautiful sofa can fall flat without the right design elements. Here’s how to get it right

STEP 1: UPDATE THE RUG

Adding a bold rug can define an otherwise neutral space. Here, a brightly colored Kilim with a few gray tones brings out the shade of the sofa.

For a polished look—and added height!—the smaller lamp is replaced with a sleek, arched design.

On the other side of the sofa, a Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree balances the space and adds a pop of green, and a natural element to the space.

Above the sofa, multiple frames are swapped out for one large piece of statement art. A blond wood frame highlights the minimal design.
